Daydreaming Keeps You Young!

I think daydreaming keeps you young. Photos like this transport me to other places, and give me the feeling that I am almost there.

I don't just see a cafe in Croatia. My imagination takes flight, and I conjure up what it would be like to visit there, or even live there. I picture myself sitting there, having a cup of tea, (or wine) looking down at the boats below - or maybe being in one of those boats.

I feel the sun on my back, and the wind on my face. I think about the hotel room I might stay in – something simple, near the heart of things – somewhere local people might stay on a weekend of a holiday.

I imagine the people I might meet. English is spoken almost everywhere, so that wouldn’t be a problem, and when you’re a woman travelling alone, it’s easy to start conversations with the people around you. I think about the food, the music, the little stores, the historical sites, and then I imagine other places nearby that I might visit, like Greece or Italy.

All in all, these thoughts might only take a few minutes, but they are like a little vacation, and they inspire me to keep a sense of adventure and curiosity in my life, for that is a big part of what I think keeps us youthful, full of energy, enthusiasm and loving life.

And the best part? Daydreaming like this often causes me to take action, and before I know it, I’m planning a trip or on my way to a new country or city. And I plan to keep doing that until I’m well into my 90’s, or even beyond. And THAT thought helps me to keep doing all the things that will keep me healthy, strong, and full of the energy it takes to continue living life to the very hilt!

What is Hypnosis? Can it Really Help Me?

There are several ways hypnosis can be used to stay young.  It can help people lose weight, quit smoking, cope with pain, have less stress, and more confidence. It is a very effective way to get rid of bad habits and establish new ones, and it can bring huge relief to people who suffer from things like headaches, Fibromyalgia and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, all of which are very aging.

Hypnosis is a much simpler state than most people think it is. Hollywood has distorted the way people think about it so much, I prefer to describe it as tapping into the power of suggestion and visualization while in a relaxed state.

Everything starts in the mind. The subconscious is the control center, determining everything from our body temperature and blood pressure to our habits and emotional reactions.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis in the end, as no one can be made to do something they don’t want to do, and it works because of the power of suggestion.

Athletes, actors, and business people use it to perform at the optimum level. The power of the mind is so strong, surgeons used hypnosis during the Civil War, when they didn’t have anesthesia

A trance is very much like daydreaming. Daniel Handel, a physician at the National Institutes of Health describes it as similar to watching a movie that makes you to lose track of time. “You are in an altered state of consciousness…deeply absorbed but responsive to suggestions.”

Handel uses hypnosis with cancer patients who feel nauseated during chemotherapy sessions. Just the thought of the sessions, the smell of the hospital, or the drive there can make some people feel sick. “It’s a learned response,” he says, and explains that teaches them to relax and put themselves somewhere pleasurable instead.

Matt Damon quit smoking with hypnosis. Kate Middleton used it to alleviate her morning sickness, and Tiger Woods used it to improve his golf game when he was new to the circuit.

People often tell me they don’t think they can be hypnotized, but that is hardly ever true. There are only 3 reasons people can’t be hypnotized: they have a very low IQ, they are on drugs or alcohol at the time of the session (they are already in a trance), or they are determined not to be.

The last category doesn’t mean someone with mixed feelings. Most people who want to stop a bad habit do have some conflicting feelings about it – but if they want to stop, hypnosis is the easiest and fastest way to do it.

And contrary to what most people think, the smarter and more imaginative a person is, the better subject they are for hypnosis.
